Campos – Feb. 2020

Recife, Brazil

ABOUT US

We, Joe and Michelle Campos, have been missionaries to Brazil with Things to Come Mission since 2002. Our family works in Northeast Brazil, in the city of Recife.  Joe has been re-planting two churches in a major suburb of Recife, Boa Viagem and Jordão. He is also the director of the Leader Bible Institute, which trains national leaders for the ministry. He is a key member of the national board of the Northeast churches and is responsible for all the literature projects. Michelle actively supports Joe in each of these ministries.

We have four children: Elly, Jessica, Nathan and Bella. Elly and Jessica live in the US, while Nathan and Bella live in Brazil with us and help in our ministry. Nathan is working toward his Ministry Studies degree online through Berean Bible Institute. He is responsible for the youth ministries among the churches, is part of the worship team and is currently being trained to become a deacon at the Boa Viagem Church. Bella helps with music at church and is also a student leader of the youth.

Our family also works together in the Project ABBA ministry, leading a Christmas Celebration with children at the end of every year, training Sunday school and Children’s Club leaders, and running a Christian Education library for the churches. Project ABBA also provides for some of the children’s physical needs when necessary and possible.

We are now stepping into a different level of our ministry. We will concentrate our efforts on the training program (Leader Bible Institute) and on new church plants through the students. Our family is currently looking for individuals and churches that would like to join them in the fulfillment of these goals. WOULD YOU PRAYERFULLY CONSIDER JOINING US IN OUR EFFORT TO MINISTER IN BRAZIL?

FUTURE PLANS

We will continue to use Recife city as our base for ministry, but we (Joe) will be traveling quite often in order to train students and coordinate church plants.

Currently there are 4 local churches in the Recife area, another one in Serra Talhada City, one being planted in São Bento do Una city, and plans to start another church in the city of Vitória de Santo Antão.

 OUR GOALS:

  • SUPPORT THE LOCAL CHURCHES;
  • ORGANIZE AND EXPAND LEADERSHIP TRAINING for Pastors, leaders, and Church planters;
  • ASSIST AND COORDINATE NEW CHURCH PLANTING EFFORTS throughout Brazil.

THE TARGET

The Northeast of Brazil is known as the 10/40 window of the country. Many of the inland cities in this region have less than 1% evangelical Christians. It is the poorest region in the country with more than 50% of the poor, the highest rate of people who cannot read, the highest rate of child mortality and child prostitution. 62.1% of the cities of this region have not been reached with the gospel of Jesus even though there are more than 53 million people living here. These and many other reasons make the ministries of church planting, leadership training, and Project ABBA highly crucial.

MINISTRY FINANCIAL NEEDS
